Private Lessons
Derek offers a variety of private lessons to students of all ages. Students who study privately advance at an individual pace, and Derek can accommodate to meet each student's needs. For those who wish to become a serious musician or for those who just play for fun, private lessons play an important role in musical development. Students may choose to take lessons in violin, fiddle, or guitar.

Fiddle: Many students who are currently learning the violin may choose to have supplemental fiddle lessons. During these lessons, Derek will teach students popular fiddle tunes, improvisation, how to play with a band, and ear training. For students who are currently playing violin with the Suzuki method, Derek uses Fiddlin' Favorites, a book and CD set that correlates directly with the Suzuki violin method.
Guitar: Students studying guitar with Derek learn how to play chords that go along with their favorite songs and popular tunes. They learn a variety of strumming patterns as well as the ability to use the pick and play melodies. Improvisation is also incorporated.
